The world-building is outstanding, reminiscent of Peaky Blinders and Caraval and the extended cast of characters are well-developed. Enne, the protagonist, undergoes significant character development, making her a strong, fierce, and cunning protagonist. The sexual tension between Enne and Levi adds depth to the storyline, and Levi's bad boy character is enjoyable. Some minor characters add vivid details to the imaginative world. The pacing slows at times, which can make it difficult to follow the intricate plot. The review highlights that it is a steampunk story of lost family, unknown origins, mobsters, and death-dealing city rulers. The novel combines ruthless drive, magic, and companionship needed to find the truth. Feminism runs through the narrative making Enne a hero to be reckoned with. Customers generally loved this book for its plot, world-building, and character development. However, a customer found the pacing slow and confusing in parts.
