The Aprilaire Model 800 humidifier is a steam option that provides much better humidity control than other models. Although it's a bit harder to install and costs more than others, it's worth it. The power requirements are 10/2 cable with a 25-amp circuit breaker for the 220V, 16-amp configuration. It operates on 110v or 220v and 11.5 or 16 amps. Installation required connecting to electric, running a water source hose, and running the drain hose to a floor drain. It takes some patience, some experience with wiring and hose lines, and the confidence to know what to pick up when you find out that not everything you need is included in the box. The unit has no fan and is much smaller and easier to install than other humidifiers. The difference between model 800 and model 801 is that the latter is a modulating humidifier requiring a special controller that can modulate between 10% capacity and 100% capacity depending on the requirement. The 801 is typically used in precision 'laboratory' environments. If you have metal ducts with interior insulation, the chance of mold growth increases. Make sure the unit runs only while the furnace is producing heat and shuts down during the cool-down cycle.
