The Stagg ECL 4/4 BK Electric Cello in black is an innovative breakthrough for an electric cello especially in this price range. With tuners rather than the traditional pegs, the neck/fingerboard of this cello appears to have been designed by an experienced luthier. The cello has some weight and spaces correctly to your body so that your position adapts similarly to playing a wooden acoustic cello. The bridge can be adjusted to always make the correct string height and the pickup is not your standard piezo, it's a step up with both volume and tone control. The battery life is fine and the blue pilot light reminds you to unplug headphone and amp jacks when you're finished usingc the cello. It's also great for studio work through a Boss guitar ME50 effects processor outputted to two separate channels for stereo. However, this cello may not be suitable for novice cellists as it takes a bit of adjustment in position to get comfortable with the "wire frame" extensions, especially on your chest and left leg. Another ancillary issue is that the extensions "wobble" in their sockets even when screwed-in tightly, making the instrument feel unstable as it lays against you. It will still rotate slightly as you play. The amplified sound is barely recognizable as a cello in a novice's hands, even when significantly EQ'ed. Some users have also reported receiving the cello with a major crack in the body, and others have had issues with the knee supports being painful to use.
